I think the extra rigid rails will really only make a difference when things get expanded out. The X-Carve can cut a larger area I believe by default though, which is nice. When I was deciding, I looked at the beefiness of the OX and S3, and decided that they were the way to go.

To be honest, I love my S3, and at this point wouldn't trade it for anything else, but I also have seen that the X-Carve is quite a bit more capable than I had given it credit for. I know they have that in the plans, and the rails are very solid, but anything else would just be a guess on my part. I haven't seen any claims on the expandable size. Last I checked, they thought they would be all caught up by the end of September, so new orders would be shipping as they got them. I ordered in April, and took delivery the first week of August. Mine took several months, but that is not a good indicator. It's not uncommon to get a response from the lead design engineer or even the CEO on there. The forums are great ( HERE) and I would suggest checking them out. The support and community surrounding the X-Carve was a huge deciding factor for me. The stock spindle(300w) that comes with the X-Carve is fine and will do most of what you want to do, but I'm sure I'll be upgrading soon so I can start making some serious sawdust! The biggest down fall with any of these seems to come down to the spindle.

Maybe I'll upgrade my X-Carve and use V-Slot! Not that I have had any issue with my maker slide, just the v-slot extrusion just looks like a better system, by how much who knows. The one thing I do like about the OX over the X-Carve is that is uses V-Slot. I think the X-Carve has a little bit nicer fit and finish, but that's just nit picking. The OX looks pretty rigid (maybe over kill depending on what you are doing), but I have to say I have't had any problems with rigidity on the X-Carve. All these Hobby CNCs have their quirks, but if you don't mind problem solving from time to time you'll get along fine.

I don't really know how to do videos but I could at least put screenshots and text.I currently own a 1000mm X-Carve and love it. Maybe I should make some tutorials and post them on the PixelCNC forum or something. There's a bunch of them in the user guide but most of the time I like just trying different things and stumbling over features because that's how I learned pretty much every program I've ever used! I'm still figuring out little things like that all the time.

You can also crop "raster" and model layers by holding the alt key while scaling them. Right drag on the middle icons will move or scale the layer vertically where left moves the layer horizontally. The right click drag on the corners will rotate the layer. When you select a layer there's little circles and squares that show up on the layer you can use both left and right click drag to do different things with them. The canvas compositor was the trickiest part.

After working in precision CNC shops and using CAM software over the years for mostly doing optics and medical parts I found the interface not too hard to figure out. The compositor just isn't as fully featured yet so anything else I just use Inkscape and GIMP to do any "backup" design stuff like text along paths.

Just about anything you could want toolpath or carving wise. I'm still waiting for text along a path and then I'll be pretty much set.ĮDIT: Oh yea and PixelCNC does 2.5D and 3D. It's looking like it's going to give Vectric and Carveco a run for their money because it's starting to be able to do everything they can do way more affordably. It's a WIP under development and doesn't have much in the way of learning resources but I could help you get up and running with it I've been using it for about a year figuring out the new features that come out every month or so with the automatic updates. It has a built in compositor too for generating shapes and stuff from 2D paths which you can draw or trace off a loaded model or bitmap or load from SVG.
